Games people play

'Revealed: the latest Royal Park ...' (22/6) looks like a real estate agent's promo for a deluxe development rather than an update on the 2006 Games Village. It is, in truth, a subdivision development disguised as the Commonweath Games village. Little attention has been paid to how it will operate during the Games. Government information published in the media militates against the public learning the facts. For instance, your article purports to show the latest plans, but a Mark IV version was recently put by the developer and the City of Melbourne to the committee; no mention is made of the $85 million government subsidy to the developer; and the architect's vision of the ceremonial entrance does not reveal that it is a tiny plaza (18-25 metres square) tucked away next to CityLink.
