  • Questionable Games 'outcomes'

Commonwealth Games Minister Justin Madden's claims (9/12) that the Bracks Government has delivered "excellent economic, social and environmental outcomes" for the state at the Commonwealth Games village site don't stand up to scrutiny. To date nothing has been delivered - in fact the development won't start until February 2004, 12 months behind schedule.

And then the Royal Park Games "village" will be a construction site for the next 10 years due to a profit-share deal between the Bracks Government and the private sector that will see it developed as a 1000-unit housing development. Residents will be inconvenienced by construction activity for years after the Commonwealth Games have finished. Is that what minister Madden means by social and environmental outcomes?
